We’ve all been there: you’ve been exhausted all day, but the second your head hits the pillow, your brain decides it’s time for a deep dive into every to-do list you’ve ever had.

How Does Sleep Happen?

Your sleep is governed by two opposing forces that need to be in sync for you to drift off:

  1. Process S (The Sleep Balloon): From the moment you wake up, a chemical called adenosine builds up in your brain. Think of it like a balloon filling with air. The longer you stay awake, the more “sleep pressure” builds.

  2. Process C (The Body Clock): This is your Circadian Rhythm. It sends out alerting signals to keep you awake during the day.

When these are misaligned, because of late-night caffeine (which blocks adenosine) or irregular wake-up times you can  feel “tired but wired.” The pressure is there, but the signal to sleep is blocked.

The Virty Fix

We use your wearable data to see if your “clock” is drifting. By tracking your sleep onset and wake times, our clinicians can suggest tiny timing tweaks like moving your morning walk or shifting your last coffee to make sure your internal systems are pulling in the same direction. Alternatively you may want to subscribe to our Sleep Well program if you need a little bit more guidance.
